We all know that social media (SM) has a major impact in every society, in every aspect of our life, and public relations is no exception. PR must continually adapt to the new realities ushered in by social media:

Brands are sharing new information on their social media platforms without letting us know. It\'s getting harder to send news items out to journalists.
We in PR have to be constantly watching the messaging on social media to make sure we don’t misstep.
The speed of sharing on SM is a major challenge for PR.
SM are influencing the communication style of PR – tone and word choices.
PR must adapt the way it presents products (e.g. issues around gender – male, female, or neutral).

Good news for public relations in 2022

It’s still sought after online (93 million Google hits in French and 913 million in English).
Young digital marketing professionals are discovering that PR is the organic part of any good communications plan.
Nothing beats a major media article for spotlighting an executive, business or service.
In 2022, TV is still the queen of all media.

Yes, TikTok will be even more important on social media in 2022, and we are factoring that into our strategic plans, because nothing gets your potential customers’ attention like well-crafted, quality content.
Not everyone is online at all times.
PR also lets us reach people who, even today, aren’t online 24/7 – including people over 40, a great many of whom still consult traditional media.
In short, 2022 will be a powerful year for us, when we’ll continue to combine PR and social media.
I hope you enjoyed this episode, and that this PR/marketing moment stimulates your creativity.
