59- Self Care Is More Than A Selfie At The Spa
This summer I posted pictures of myself on social media engaged in different activities and highlighting that I was taking care of myself.
There was something about these posts that made me feel uncomfortable, as if I was missing the real point I was trying to make.
I was engaging in these activities with mindfulness and with the goal of truly taking care of myself. But looking at these photos, I felt that the medium I used to communicate my intention seemed overly superficial and did not really convey what I truly meant by \"taking care of myself.”
In this episode I share with you three layers of what I consider \"self-care.”
Daily, deliberate and conscious activity; habit and ritual.
Setting healthy boundaries.
Allowing all of our senses to be used to their full potential and awareness in order to enrich our human experience.
Daily, conscious self-care is an act of extreme intimacy with oneself— quite unlike a selfie at the spa, which, in retrospect, feels far away from the real heart of the experience.
