
Anne Hutchinson gave birth to 15 children over the course of 24 years. Born in England in 1591, she was a midwife, Puritan leader, spiritual advisor, religious reformer, and an important participant in the fledgling Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1636 to 1638 — her role as a mother was central to her life before she was banished. During her trial and banishment in 1637–1638, she was 46 years old and pregnant with her final child. After relocating to New York, she and most of her children were killed in 1643 during a Siwanoy Indian raid, with only one daughter, Susanna, surviving.
