One of the most known parables of Jesus in the New Testament, \"The Prodigal Son\" refers to the story in the Gospel of Luke (15:11-32) about a son who squanders his inheritance and later returns to his father, who welcomes him back with a celebration, despite the anger and jealousy of his brother. Christians believe the parable illustrates God\'s unconditional love and forgiveness for sinners who repent. The secular term \"prodigal son\" has also come to mean a son or daughter who leaves home, acts irresponsibly, but then feels remorse and returns.
