12- Oh Memories… Tell me what I need to know !
In this episode I guide you through a very simple tool to help you leverage the souvenirs that pop up unexpectedly.
When a souvenir pop up:
1- Note it down- all the details that you remember or that things that were more vivid in your souvenir.
2- Ask yourself how you feel, what are your emotions in this souvenir? What have you retained?
3- What is common in this souvenir with your life today? How could it be linked?
One common mistake we make with souvenirs is to try to sort out ‘’ the absolute truth’’ of what was said by whom, who exactly was there etc. This could be crucial for a trial etc but you don’t need this to leverage your souvenirs for problems solving.
What matters is how YOU felt, what YOU heard, What YOU retained… Those are the keys you need. There will always be people to tell you that this is not what has been said etc. It’s pointless. I have a lot of siblings in my practice and I keep seeing them talking about the same events ( ex: parents divorce) with different terms, feelings, emotions etc.
Please note that if you have tendencies to be the truth seeker in your family, this concept may be harder to play with and it is normal. I encourage you to try it for yourself and see how you can play with it and find answers to your own dilemmas or questions etc.
My example:
After my grand-father’s funeral, the men of the family are sitting in his boutique and talking about him more specifically about his business. That souvenir came up to help me understand the challenges now that I am facing with associating with other people in my business or expanding etc.
What souvenir popped up lately ? Play with it and try to see if there is any wisdom for you there.
