Il y a des moments dans la vie d’une organisation où de grands questionnements émergent sur son avenir. C’est l’un de ces moments que vit Centraide du Grand Montréal. C’est une organisation qui symbolise la solidarité entre les membres de la communauté et ses campagnes sont l’occasion d’un grand brassage impliquant près de 500 000 personnes. Centraide fait aujourd’hui face à des tensions très fortes. Il y a d’un côté les problèmes durables de faible intensité, peu visibles mais qui sont au cœur de l’action communautaire et qu’on ne peut négliger sans mettre en cause la grande harmonie qui a caractérisé les communautés de Montréal. De l’autre, il y a les tendances des entreprises à considérer la philanthropie comme une dimension cruciale, stratégique, ce qui les mène à privilégier les causes visibles et séduisantes pour le grand public. Ce livre décrit d’abord l’histoire de Centraide et ses grands succès pour mettre en évidence la crise majeure que cette tension dessine pour l’action philanthropique et la solidarité communautaire montréalaise.

Interview with Nisha Patel

Nisha Patel is an award-winning Indo-Canadian poet & artist. She is the 2019 Canadian Individual Slam Champion, the Edmonton Slam Champion, and a recipient of the Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund Award. She is also the Festival Producer of the Edmonton Poetry Festival.

Her work has been published in a collection of poems called "Water" and a solo chapbook “Limited Success” through Glass Buffalo Publishing. She has performed across Canada and the world, sharing her work on multiple tours and international features. Her poetry speaks to themes of race, feminism, and identity, focusing strongly on her struggles and triumphs as a woman of colour. She is a proud member of the Breath in Poetry Collective and a graduate of the Alberta School of Business, and works to further her goal of building a stronger artistic community through living in her truth. Interview with Karen Henders of South Saskatchewan Community Foundations

Lynn Gidluck, Co-director of PhiLab's Western Hub, interviews Karen Henders of the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation on their participation in the Vital Signs program. What motivated them to partake in the initiative? How has the project grown over time? What were the results? Tune in to find out.

Karen is SSCF’s Director of Community and Grant Stewardship. Karen leads community engagement and granting activities, including the Vital Signs Community Network (VSCN). Her focus is to strengthen South Saskatchewan Community Foundation’s community knowledge and inform its activities in support of the charitable sector. As the Director of Community and Grant Stewardship, Karen works with SSCF’s Executive Director to effectively match the generous gifts of donors with the needs of the community. She brings a wealth of experience to her role at SSCF with over 13 years of program management experience in the arts and creative industries sectors, from her time in the film industry, as an entrepreneur, and with her Master of Business Administration from the University of Regina.
